Helpful Trade Associations
Trade associations, also sometimes known as business associations, industry trade groups, or “ad hoc” trade groups, are usually organized and funded by businesses that operate in a specific industry or sector of society (e.g., Association of Banks and Insurance Companies, Association of Tourist Agencies, Customs Brokers Association). However, they can also represent all businesses and business interests (e.g., the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce) or the interests of businesses involved with a particular segment of international trade (e.g., American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo).
Currently trade associations are not as active and as well funded in Kosovo as they are in many other countries. Nonetheless, they can be of great value to businesses engaged in international trade transactions by representing their members’ interests to Government, disseminating business information important to their members, sponsoring “trade shows” where vendors can present their products, etc. (This Guide is an example of a trade association’s assistance to its members and the business community in general.)
Trade associations can be of great assistance to businesses involved in international trade transactions. This Part lists and describes some of the trade associations currently operating in Kosovo that are most relevant to international trade.
